HP Web Jetadmin Plus EcoSMART Fleet Equals Greener Printing and Quantifiable Cost Savings

Apr 27, 2012 12:22:28 PM

Like a burger and fries, peanut butter and jelly, and ice cold milk and an Oreo cookie, some things are just better together. That’s the case with two notable solutions from Hewlett-Packard. HP Web Jetadmin 10.2, which we recently tested in the latest Service Release 7, is the latest iteration of the company’s widely used fleet management solution. The utility was originally released in 1996 to help network administrators manage HP LaserJet printers, and has grown into an industry-standard Web-based tool for remotely installing, configuring, managing and monitoring a wide variety of HP and non-HP network peripherals. Web Jetadmin aims to give a global perspective on the quantity and capabilities of a company’s printing and imaging devices and addresses five key areas for administrators: fleet deployment, problem resolution, proactive management, device security and reporting optimization. The utility works with network-connected devices, as well as locally connected printers and MFPs attached to a networked PC.

More recently, HP realized that the data stored in Web Jetadmin was a treasure trove waiting to be mined. Enter HP EcoSMART Fleet. This assessment and reporting tool tracks the environmental and cost impact of an organization’s output fleet. Leveraging the power of Web Jetadmin, HP EcoSMART Fleet allows managers to see the energy and resource use of printers and MFPs and, more importantly, discern how adjusting printing habits and printer settings would lower such use. With the tool’s tracking and reporting mechanisms, administrators can see their organization’s current use, identify where changes could be made, and see how to implement those changes in a way that’s both good for the environment and the organization’s bottom line. HP EcoSMART Fleet is designed for companies with 50 or more HP devices to monitor, from mid-size firms to Fortune 500 enterprises with upwards of 5,000 devices.
