Epson Launches Six New EcoTank Models for Small and Home Offices

Company announces next gen EcoTank devices and reports strong sales growth

Sep 23, 2021 12:22:28 PM

Epson recently announced that it is refreshing its core EcoTank lineup with a new generation of all-in-one devices for small and home office environments:

  • Epson EcoTank ET-2800 (replacing ET-2720) at $249.99
  • Epson EcoTank ET-2850 (replacing ET-2760) at $299.99
  • Epson EcoTank ET-3830 (replacing ET-3710) at $379.99
  • Epson EcoTank ET-4800 (replacing ET-4700) at $259.99
  • Epson EcoTank ET-3850 (replacing ET-3760) at $399.99
  • Epson EcoTank ET-4850 (replacing ET-4760) at $499.99

Three of the six new models are designed for home office use, while the other three are designed for small and home offices. Compared to the predecessors, the new devices offer several enhancements, chief among them being standard support for Epson’s ScanSmart software and the updated Epson Smart Panel App.

And as with all of Epson’s EcoTank models, the new devices have a cartridge-free design and come with up to two years of ink inbox, which helps to reduce total cost of ownership, user intervention rates, and waste levels. Several of the models (see image above) are powered by Epson’s PrecisionCore heat-free technology, which can help to boost performance and reduce energy consumption.

Among the Epson Smart Panel App’s several upgrades is the new Smart Setup feature, which provides users with interactive, step-by-step instructions for device setup.

Business Growth

Epson reports they have enjoyed exponential sales growth over the last 18 months. According to the company, their units sold in the US increased by 56% from 2019 to 2020, and their revenue increased by 64% from 2019 to 2020 (and has sustained throughout the first six months of 2021). Epson pointed to the shifts caused by COVID-19 as a possible reason for this increase.

According to the company, these shifts include a rise in color sales and printer sales to upgrade prior home printers, along with a willingness to invest more in retail devices as convenience has become more important than what’s on sale (due, in part, to supply chain issues). Epson also reports that they currently have roughly 85% of the US Supertank market share and that one out of every five dollars spent on retail inkjet devices goes to EcoTank models.

Our Take

In Keypoint Intelligence’s testing, EcoTank models have earned the reputation of offering a very strong value proposition, excellent reliability, and great ease of use for small and home office environments. These additions further build upon Epson’s expansive office inkjet lineup, which is among the broadest in the industry.
