We’ve heard a lot lately that no one wants to work anymore, but that’s not factually true. It’s an empty claim that’s been made since the 1890s by bosses, CEOs, upper management, and (really) anyone in a position of power. What they might as well be saying is “No one wants to work for me anymore…”

As of February 2026, the US labor force is approximately 170.5 million people and, with a 4.4% unemployment rate, there are plenty of people who want to work. The trick is making space for them so that they want to stay. While the average US turnover rate lingers around only 13%, company culture can be an important tool to keep that percentage even lower. (And when we say “company culture,” we aren’t talking about working for kudos, empty claims about being family, or a ping-pong table in the breakroom.)

To better grasp effective means of building a corporate culture, take a look at the infographic below!

Having a strong corporate culture is an especially important tool for any company’s C-Suite. While most industries have an incredible retention rate for their employees, a Gallup article notes that 42% of employee turnover is preventable but ignored. A lot of people leaving often remark in their exit interviews that they didn’t feel their workload/contributions to the company and their compensation matched, that they weren’t treated with respect, or that they didn’t feel like the company had a clear growth path for them.

Developing a corporate culture often addresses these issues and gives agency to employees that makes it harder to leave. Investing in people can only result in valuable returns as employees work hard seeing their coworkers promoted from within, innovation and creativity are awarded with compensation that encourages forward-thinking, and leadership provides clear communications about the growth of the company. Or you can always pay people in pizza and see how long it takes before the phrase “no one wants to work anymore” gets said in the office. The choice is yours.
