With interior décor soothsayers predicting a huge growth in wallpaper demand this year, there’s no better time to consider the Canon Colorado 1650 Printer or to see how well this UVgel roll-to-roll printer performed in Keypoint Intelligence’s wide format test program.
“It was immensely satisfying to work with Canon during the extension of our signage test platform into the UV roll-to-roll marketplace,” said David Sweetnam, Director of EMEA/Asia Research & Lab Services at Keypoint Intelligence. “From what we saw throughout testing, the Colorado 1650 certainly sets a high bar for others to try and follow.”
“We are delighted that our Colorado 1650 has undergone Keypoint Intelligence’s stringent wide format signage assessment, and that it has performed so strongly as the report indicates. It underlines our continued commitment to offering the best value to our customers and partners with our UVgel printers that provide breakthrough productivity, first-rate quality, and media versatility at a very competitive total cost of ownership,” said Mathieu Peeters, Senior Director Strategic Marketing Large Format Graphics at Canon Production Printing.
The Canon Colorado 1650 Printer provides stellar ease of use, productivity, and plenty of joy. |
The Colorado 1650’s predecessor, the Colorado 1640, epitomized Canon’s proud tradition of innovative technology development and showed that UVgel is a key differentiator compared to other ink technologies in the market. Building on this, the 1650’s enhanced UVgel 460 ink set is designed with added ‘stretchability’ to eliminate cracking on applications that require folding, creasing, and wrapping. At the same time, the inks provide the robustness and durability required for outdoor applications, nullifying the need to laminate.
Because of Canon’s new FLXfinish curing technology, we saw in tests how easy it is to produce different gloss or matte aesthetic finishes—without the need to change inks or media. More importantly, there is no loss of image quality, even at the most productive speed.
Herein lies a clear advantage for the model: PSPs can employ a matte print finish seamlessly without extra hassle or cost. For interior wall coverings and art applications, it’s a desirable effect. Add to the mix a modular design that supports a jumbo roll interface for continuous feeding and proven stellar dimensional stability, and undoubtedly the Colorado 1650 has a firm foothold in a rapidly growing digital wallpaper market.
