Our experts are constantly producing content across a variety of topics. We also know that time is limited and there are plenty of reports flying across everyone’s desk at any time. This series hopes to illuminate a single data point within one of our analyses, forecasts, or research reports that could prove interesting and encourage you to consider reviewing the full deliverable.

We are in a golden age of automation solutions for a variety of workplace solutions. Robotic process automation (RPA) can mimic human actions like copying/pasting data, filing out forms, or even clicking buttons. Other forms of artificial intelligence (AI) can use document management systems to transform into collaborative hubs of data to help streamline operations and ensure compliance for a variety of regulations. Then there is the arrival of “agentic AI,” which refers to a workflow system that can work with a degree of autonomy to make independent decisions regarding data, plan tasks, and even perform actions beyond presets to help complete tasks with minimal human interactions.

In our recent Smart Workplace Solution Portfolio analysis, we reviewed how organizations of all sizes were handling documents and business processes in the pursuit of digital transformation (DX). Beyond our analysis of the variety of software currently available, we also created detailed profiles of several vendors that are currently developing these DX solutions—including Canon, HP, and Xerox.

To better understand the market, we originally forecasted how print volumes would change over the coming years due to shifts in workstyles and movement away from print. For this report, we later re-evaluated our findings and calculated that the accelerated adoption of DX solutions (especially advanced AI-powered tools like agentic AI) would drop print volumes by a 7% CAGR from 2024 through to 2028.

By adopting DX solutions, companies can stay competitive and provide additional support as the more mundane aspects of their work becomes automated. Check out our Smart Workplace Solution Portfolio analysis to really learn about the software options available, as well as the OEMs providing them.
