Epson announced today the launch of its new flatbed document scanning solutions, the DS-1730 and the DS-1760WN. Both are color duplex devices that have been designed to meet the versatile needs of many sectors, including finance, governance, and healthcare. Both devices offer a 60-page auto document feeder (ADF) to handle batch scanning, and the DS-1760WN can handle slightly longer documents than the DS-1730 (up to 220").
“Today’s organizations require scanning solutions that can adapt to a diverse range of document types and workflows,” said Haol Yao, Product Manager at Epson America Inc. “The new DS-1720 and DS-1760WN provide versatile connectivity and offer the flexibility to take on everything from fragile documents and booklets to large stacks of paper, making them ideal for a variety of industries. Delivering enhanced workgroup productivity, the DS-1760WN also features ScanWay PC-free scanning capabilities for easy sharing and collaboration.”
Both devices come with a range of software solutions and are TWAIN and ISIS driver supported—meaning that they can fit within a variety of computing environments.

Keypoint Opinion
Epson’s announcement came as a surprise, but its reasoning for doing so is sound. Combining the ability of the ADF and flatbed, Epson has emphasized the versatility of its new solution for a variety of verticals, particularly where different media types and sizes are a common theme. With two models that can be tailored to different user needs, it seems that Epson not only want to fill a gap in its own lineup but present a solution that can handle any job on one device, too. Let’s see how it’s received in the marketplace and how both devices perform during our testing!
