Artificial intelligence (AI) is not a new topic for our blog. We’ve looked at how AI has played a part in production printing, generating images, and how it is changing document imaging solutions. Now, we’re going to look at chatbots.

Many of us have interacted with one at some point—most likely as part of a customer service app on a website (e.g., Erica for Bank of America, Jenn from Alaska Airlines) or maybe for entertainment. As an elder millennial, I remember my friends talking to Smart Child on AIM…but chatbots have grown exponentially since then.

Most recently, ChatGPT from OpenAI has been gaining a lot of attention as people are already using it to write reports for school or scientific research, create code for websites and apps, and even to create children’s books (with image AI apps making the pictures). Beyond the ethics concerns of using a chatbot to make content that could be seen as cheating in academia or stealing other writers’ work to use as a source, there are also dangers that the AI will include incorrect or misleading data because the sources being pulled from have this wrong information included.

This infographic compiles some of the main points about chatbots and how their use may change in the coming months.
