The eProductivity Software (ePS) Connect 2024 conference, held at The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas, had significant changes from last year’s conference. While still a user conference, ePS Connect 2024 seemed to have a much more significant packaging focus, a new venue, and a scheduling change from January to August. While the conference gathered around 500 industry professionals—which was a similar number as last year—its proximity to the upcoming 2024 PRINTING United Expo likely reduced participation. We expect that ePS will likely move the conference to dates earlier in the year to minimize this conflict.

Innovation and Sustainability at the Core of ePS Connect 2024

At the heart of ePS Connect 2024 was a strategic vision focused on innovation, sustainability, and the integration of advanced technologies. Gaby Matsliach, CEO of ePS, kicked off the event by highlighting the company's transformation and commitment to supporting the industry with modern, scalable solutions that address current and future challenges. This vision was expanded upon by other industry leaders who discussed the importance of creating a technology-driven ecosystem to foster sustainable growth and more engaging consumer experiences.

The Conference Theme: Empower, Evolve, Excite - Driving Innovation in Print and Packaging

Software Modernization: Paving the Way for Future-Ready Operations

Software modernization and automation were key themes, reflecting the ongoing transformation within the print and packaging industry. ePS showcased its ambitious roadmap, which includes transitioning legacy systems like Monarch to fully browser-based platforms by 2025. This shift is designed to enhance accessibility, streamline user experiences, and make operations more agile.

A standout feature was the introduction of Automator, an AI-powered business process management engine. Automator exemplifies the trend towards digital-first operations by enabling comprehensive workflow automation. This tool is set to significantly reduce manual intervention, boost productivity, and minimize errors—underscoring the importance of modernization in maintaining a competitive edge.

Strategic Partnerships: The Power of Collaboration in Print and Packaging

Technology partnerships and collaborations were highlighted as crucial for growth within the print and packaging sectors. ePS's alliances with leading providers like HP demonstrate the importance of integrating cutting-edge technologies to enhance product offerings and expand market reach.

Industry leaders such as Marc Olin (ePS Executive Chairman) and Fernando Alperowitch (HP VP/GM) emphasized how these collaborations are vital for fostering innovation and sustaining a competitive advantage. These partnerships allow for the development of comprehensive solutions tailored to meet the specific needs of customers, ensuring that tools are innovative and aligned with real-world operational demands.

Sustainable Printing Practices: Adapting to Market Demands

Sustainability emerged as a critical focus, driven by increasing consumer and regulatory demands. The conference emphasized that sustainability in the print industry goes beyond using eco-friendly materials; it also involves adopting technologies and processes that minimize environmental impact.

Fernando Alperowitch of HP highlighted the growing demand for comprehensive sustainability reports, particularly from markets in Europe and the Americas. Companies are now expected to demonstrate a commitment to reducing their carbon footprints. ePS is addressing this need by developing tools that help businesses track and manage their sustainability efforts more effectively.

AI in Packaging Production: Revolutionizing the Industry

The role of artificial intelligence (AI) in packaging production was a significant focus at ePS Connect 2024. AI and machine learning are transforming production processes with tools like Automator leading the charge. These technologies enable real-time adjustments based on data-driven insights, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing the need for manual intervention.

Marc Olin also discussed AI’s role in predictive maintenance, which helps forecast equipment failures and minimize downtime. This proactive approach not only extends the lifespan of critical machinery, but also reduces costs and improves productivity—making AI an essential tool for staying competitive in the fast-evolving print and packaging industries.
