Well, I was half right. When I sat down with West McDonald in the first quarter of last year to discuss dealer acquisitions on his livestream, I said there would be more activity in 2022 than in 2021. That turned out to be true, though my mind and my gut did think that even more acquisitions would happen—but no dice, so my field goal percentage fell to 50%.
The reality is that dealers buying dealers remains a topic that holds people’s attention. Some might even say it captivates them. But, at the very least, many people gravitate toward these stories. Every entity in the channel is a living, breathing thing. And when two combine there can be so much nuance, so much at stake, that to really understand it you must be on the inside.
The following infographic, however, is not about that. Rather, we present four simple stats to provide just a taste of the dealer acquisitions landscape in 2022.
