Smaller seems to be all the rage for new the leaner, meaner HP Inc., especially those products designed for the style-conscious consumer. Cases in point are the latest offerings from the Printing and Personal Systems group, from more compact LaserJets to smaller, thinner laptops. And in keeping with this little trend (pun intended), HP recently announced “the world’s smallest inkjet all-in-one.”
Retailing for just $69.99, the DeskJet 3755 casts off the usual boxy beige design of desktop printers and instead boasts a compact, curvaceous design and comes in a variety of hues to coordinate and compliment ones décor. Designed for the modern consumer, this model will likely appeal to the younge set, with scrollscan (there is no platen glass, instead rollers move a page under a compact scanbar), standard wireless/WiFi Direct connections, and simplified mobile printing with the BLI "Gold" rated HP All-in-One Printer Remote. The DeskJet 3755 is also meant to encourage consumers to print content, especially photos, from social media sites. To help that along, HP offers specialty snapshot photopapers and a Social Media Snapshot app to automatically resize content from Instagram and other photosharing sites, while HP PrintBot lets users print by sending photos via Facebook messenger.
And because many millennials prefer the “as a service” model, even for printing, the new DeskJets are Instant Ink ready, allowing users to sign up for the program and prepay a lowmonthly fee for a set page volume (50 pages for $2.99 per month, 100 pages for $4.99 per month or 300 pages for $9.99 per month); each plan allows for rolling over up to one month of unused pages and ink is autodelivered.
With page volumes declining and more of the younger generation reading on screens, rather than on paper, will these new products encourage them to print more? That remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure: the DeskJet 3755 is not your father’s printer.
