As a part of Keypoint Intelligence’s Earth Month series of blogs for this year, we’re looking at the benefits of reusing and remanufacturing supplies—as well as the challenges that the aftermarket will have to overcome.
We’ve been following the supplies aftermarket for years, including in our most recent US Channel Survey. According to our research, 73% of the respondents to our survey provide remanufactured toner, container bottles, or ink cartridges with new (i.e., first-use) hardware while another 69% do so with used devices. This is a notable number of suppliers in the channel, but not everyone behaves in the same way.
In this infographic, we’ve collected key findings regarding providing reused supplies, managed print service (MPS) providers’ utilization of the aftermarket, as well as end-of-life plans for devices.
Keypoint Intelligence Opinion
There’s no one way to be environmentally friendly. There’s a reason the rallying cry for many years has been “reduce, reuse, recycle” as each method can be helpful to shrink our collective impact on our planet. While reducing the use of natural resources can have a great effect, we can’t overlook how reusing supply cartridges and recycling devices at the end of their life are just as impactful.
We still have time to keep from permanently altering our world via climate change, the extinction of various animals or plants, and changes to our atmosphere. These aren’t catastrophizing scenarios, but potential realities if we don’t curb our bad behaviors—and every little effort can help.
