“Shaping the Future” was the theme of the recent PaperCut Partner Summit 2025, an online event that brought together PaperCut resellers from around the globe. With changes coming from inside the company (new releases of PaperCut Hive and MF) and outside (the sunsetting of Windows 10, the arrival of Windows Protected Print), there was certainly a lot to talk about.

A central theme at the summit was addressing shifts in the print industry. With print management increasingly moving towards cloud-based solutions and away from traditional server-bound infrastructures, partners learned about the pressing need to adapt. To that end, a significant portion of the summit was dedicated to PaperCut’s product roadmap—particularly emphasizing the transition towards modern, driverless printing solutions. Given the growing adoption of Microsoft Universal Print and the changes to the Windows print subsystem wrought by Windows Protected Print Mode (WPP), discussions focused on Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) and how it is shaping future print management strategies. For example, as companies re-examine their network print infrastructure, there is an opportunity for resellers to help customers with print queue deployment: an area where PaperCut’s tools could aid partners in effectively navigating and leveraging these opportunities.

Major Updates for PaperCut Hive

The summit prominently featured PaperCut Hive, the company’s cloud-native print management solution. The Q1 2025 release of Hive introduced substantial enhancements aimed at providing IT administrators and managed service providers (MSPs) with greater control, flexibility, and ease of use. Key highlights from the release include:

  • Print Quotas: An essential addition, this feature empowers administrators to manage user budgets for printing. By enabling automatic tracking and control, it significantly reduces wasteful printing practices, supports organizational sustainability goals, and ensures fair resource allocation.
  • Multi-Org Login: This simplifies management significantly for IT administrators and managed service providers (MSPs) managing multiple Hive organizations. With a single email login and streamlined One-Time Password (OTP) verification, managing multiple environments becomes seamless.
  • Expanded Hardware Support: The latest Hive release broadened printer app support, now including leading brands such as Ricoh, Canon, Lexmark, and Epson. With this expansion, PaperCut now supports a total of 11 printer brands, demonstrating a firm commitment to compatibility and user convenience.
  • Enhanced Cloud-First Printing: PaperCut Hive continues to evolve towards cloud-first printing, greatly reducing the need for on-premise infrastructure, simplifying administrative tasks, lowering costs, and promoting sustainability.

Unified Subscription Model Insights

Attendees also received valuable insights into the company’s unified subscription model, which has now been operational for one year. The feedback highlighted the model’s flexibility and responsiveness to customer preferences, signaling robust potential for future adoption and scalability. Also highlighted were the various resources PaperCut has made available to help navigate the print industry’s transformation, including the introduction of the Channel Connect Partner Program that promises robust support and specialized resources to drive partner growth and effectiveness.

The summit also featured interactive breakout workshops tailored to various partner needs:

  • Sales 101 - “Why Sell PaperCut?”: Ideal for new partners or as a refresher, this session reinforced the unique value proposition of PaperCut solutions.
  • RFID and Authentication: Focusing on scaling authentication strategies with partners Elatec and Taco, this workshop explored practical implementations for enhanced security.
  • Migrating PaperCut MF to Hive: Best practices were shared, helping partners smoothly transition clients from traditional on-premise solutions to the streamlined cloud-first approach of Hive.
  • Winning Hive Implementations and Portfolio Strategies: Detailed sessions provided deep insights and proven strategies for successfully implementing Hive solutions and optimizing the broader PaperCut product portfolio.

Continued Innovation in PaperCut MF

While Hive’s cloud enhancements were a focus, PaperCut also emphasized significant advancements in its flagship on-premises solution, PaperCut MF. The recent 24.1 release introduced advanced scanning features—including comprehensive scan reporting and secure archiving capabilities—significantly bolstering document management and compliance frameworks. Additionally, enhanced integration with Microsoft’s WPP provides heightened security against third-party driver vulnerabilities.

Overall, the PaperCut Partner Summit 2025 effectively prepared partners for the future—providing clarity, actionable insights, and advanced tools to navigate the shifting landscape of print management. Resellers with an active partner portal login can view a recording of the entire event.
