PFU recently announced the launch of two new scanners to its “fi” series: the fi-8930 and the fi-8950. Both are high-volume devices designed to offer purpose-built delivery for long-term ROI. They were keen to emphasize that both devices were built following extensive discussions with customers, ensuring that the new models are adaptable to solve most common scanning issues for businesses.

“We developed these new models to solve the most common and costly scanning issues based on customer insight and feedback for both hardware and software,” said Daisuke Kutsuwada, President and CEO of PFU. “These new production scanners will help our customers leverage artificial intelligence (AI) for business by driving better outcomes for the best image quality.”

The fi-8930 can handle up to 130 pages per minute (PPM), while the fi-8950 can handle slightly more at 150 PPM. Both come with a 750-sheet document feeder and a 750-sheet stacker, as well as the latest image processing engine and clear image capture technology from Ricoh to ensure minimal downtime. Users familiar with PaperStream will be pleased to hear that both devices support the latest version of the software, making integration with existing processes straightforward.

Keypoint Intelligence Opinion

There is a great deal to be excited about here. The products boast an impressive array of features, from a 4.3" LCD touchscreen to stapled document detection, paper ejection control, and automatic skew correction. Following the successful acquisition by Ricoh in 2022, it also marks PFU’s entry into a growing segment of the market. Although the well-known “fi” series now falls under Ricoh branding, PFU’s full involvement in the new device’s development will no doubt give further confidence to consumers that they are of the same quality as previous devices in the lineup. We are looking forward to reviewing these devices in our lab later this year.
