I recently had the opportunity to sit in on a special edition of The Imaging Channel’s Analyst Corner Live! webinar series. Hosted by Patricia Ames, this “What Is the Future of Work?” episode featured our very own Anne Valaitis and Deborah Hawkins, who discussed the future of work within artificial intelligence (AI) and the structure of office mandates, respectively.

Future of Work: Artificial Intelligence

Anne discussed how AI is reshaping the office equipment landscape, transforming the tools we use and the way we work with them. While many are looking to implement AI, she highlighted that we are in the beginning stages of that adventure. As AI learns, so do users—training and exploring leads to more ideas to implement. We are forever growing, from big companies down to the granular worker. We must focus on how to make AI work with our data and deploy it across workplace channels efficiently and effectively. How we interact with the tech available to us and how it enhances how we work is the future.

Future of Work: The Mandates

Deborah Hawkins took on the topic of return-to-office mandates and how they affect those they’re being designated to. Admitting that the mandates make her apprehensive and a bit bristly, Deborah said that mandates are literally adults telling other grown adults what to do and, because of that, they’re riddled with negative connotations. She emphasized that the future of work should not focus on where work is being done, but how. Coining the phrase “espresso office” (smaller but stronger), she explained that while the in-person office may be smaller, the workforce becomes stronger.

Keypoint Intelligence Opinion

This webinar was full of wonderful points from the women who participated, and the points brought up by our analysts truly hit home.

Yes, it is understandable that higher ups want to regain the control they lost with remote working. But knowledge workers require inspiration, flexibility, and autonomy so that we don’t feel like a hamster in a wheel. Balancing this aspect is key to the workplace moving forward efficiently.

And yes, artificial intelligence is everywhere—but its current form, the form everyone now knows, is still young. We must look beyond the shiny newness of this technology and truly focus on how it can better help our knowledge workers perform their duties. The focus will be on practical applications of AI in everyday office settings and how these advancements are contributing to a more connected, productive, and dynamic work environment for all.

All seriously good points to learn from. Watch the webinar today!
